The origins of Bloodborne’s plot according to Miyazaki

With buckets of gore and enough gothic stylings to keep Tim Burton in a perpetual state of euphoria, it's safe to say Bloodborne is one bleak experience (and one that's set to receive a new Yharnam expansion in the near future). Sure, some of that comes from the need to work for Bloodborne's glorious victories (thanks for that, Miyazaki), but also from the Delphic lore that runs through the heart of Yharnam itself.
In the latest issue of GamesMaster, the team sat down
with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki to discuss some of the intrinsically dark themes steering the good ship Bloodborne. "Our initial idea was 'people who are superior than others are losing their child.' So the special child could be used as a bait to attract them," comments Miyazaki on the story of Queen Yharnam and the subject of child loss. "Don’t you think any creatures that are stronger than or superior to others have fewer babies? Does this apply to humans too as developed countries have lower fertility? So when I think back about it, we might have had that idea fundamentally. The loss of a child... it’s a doomed future for any species, isn’t it?"
